It's actually a little misleading. The rocket is already supersonic. When it passes through the layer of ice crystals. The announcer then makes the call the the rocket is now supersonic. It was more of a coincidence then anything the it coincided with the announcer saying that the rocket was now supersonic. Very Cool!

This video is the first time I had ever heard of a Sun Dog. There are some very good photos on the wiki page that the link leads to. This goes to prove you can learn anything with rocketry!
